two wools x
three cotton y
5x+3y=19
x+y=5. --> y= -x+5
5x+3(-x+5)=19
5x-3x+15=19
2x= 4
x= 2
x+y=5
2+y=5
y=3
5(2)+3(3)=19
10+9=19
19=19
this is how you properly solve it

I came home to find the entire kitchen floor covered in scraps of sock: my good wool socks too. Right in the middle of it, Jake stared up at me without the slightest bit of guilt, his tongue hanging out.
