8x^2 - 2x -7 = 0 Subtract 7 on both sides in order to get 0

Quadratic Formula: -b +/- radical(b^2 - 4ac)
-----------------------------
2a

So, inputting the numbers from the equation, you would get:
1.
2 +/- radical(-2^2 - 4(8)(-7))
---------------------------------
2(8)

2.
2 +/- radical(4 +224)
-----------------------
16

3.
2 +/- radical(228)
--------------------
16

4.
2 + radical(228) 1 radical(228)
------------------- => --- + ------------
16 8 16

2 - radical(228) 1 radical(228)
------------------ => --- - -------------
16 8 16

If you chose to, you could simplify radical(228)

8x^2 - 2x -7

2(+/-) the square root of (4-224), all divided by 16

- simplified form is 1 (+/-) 2i times the square root of 55, all divided by 8
