There are 24 sixth graders and 40 seventh graders. Mr. Chan wants to decide both grades into groups of equal size, with the greatest possible number of students in each group. How many students should be in each group?

the greatest common factor of 24 and 40 is 8

24/8 = 3
40/8 = 5

so he can make 3 groups of 6th graders...each group containing 8 students, and he can make 5 groups of 7th graders...each group containing 8 students
