-6x = -2(x + 12) ... distribute through the parenthesis
-6x = -2x - 24 ... addition property of equality....add 2x to both sides
-6x + 2x = -24 ... combine like terms
-4x = -24 ... division property....divide both sides by -4
x = -24/-4
x = 6
