Break it down
- Ten times a number --> 10n
- Eight less --> - 8
**So 10n - 8 = 82
Add 8 to both sides
10n = 90
Divide 10 on each side
n = 10

Eight less than ten is another way of saying 10-8. So it is saying 2 times a number is 82. This can be represented as 2x=82. Divide both sides by 2 to get x=41. So the "number" is 41.
