We want to find the probability that a resident who is 40 or older has completed a bachelor's or master's degree.

The sample space is the total number of people that are 40 years or older, this is;

3827+7106=10933

The total number of bachelor's degree holders 40 or older is;

726+2160=2886

The total number of master's degree holders 40 or older is; 655 + 1226 = 1881

Therefore, we find that the probability that a resident who is 40 or older has completed a bachelor's or master's degree is;

\begin{gathered} P(\text{bachelors)}+P(\text{masters)} \\ =(2886)/(10933)+(1881)/(10933)=(4767)/(10933)=0.436 \end{gathered}
