use quadratic formula
for
ax^2+bx+c=0
x=
(-b+/- √(b^2-4ac) )/(2a)
a=2
b=7
c=-5

the unsimplified solutions are

x=
(-7+ √(7^2-4(1)(-5)) )/(2(1)) and
(-7- √(7^2-4(1)(-5)) )/(2(1))
