How does a switch turns a circuit on and off?

The switch on a circuit has a metal thing on it (or something that is a conductor) when u switch it on the conductor comes in contact with the wire and switch the bulb on. When it is off the conductor doesn't come in contact with the wires so the bulb switches off. Hope this helped! ;-)
