Describe a Spartan upbringing? how does this differ from the childhood of an American child?

Spartan children were taught to be warriors since they were extremely small. They would undergo rigorous training that a common American child would think to be inconceivable right now. Their bodies would be pushed to the limits and many would die. Boys that were considered to be weak would be killed or enslaved.
