Otto used 6 cups of whole wheat flour and x cups of white flour in the recipe. What is the equation that can be used to find the value of y, the total amount of flour that Otto used in the recipe, and what are the constraints on the values of x and y?

6+x=y. x has to be 0 or greater. y has to be 6 or greater.

Answer:

Amount of whole wheat flour used in the mixture = 6 cups

Amount of white flour used in the Recipe = x cups

Total amount of flour used in the mixture = x + 6

Also, it is given that y is the total amount of flour used in the mixture.

So, for the information given, converting it into equation

y = x +6

→y cups= total amount of two different flours used >6, that is a Rational number,which is greater than 6.The total amount of flours can't be irrational,because irrational's can't be denoted exactly in fractional form.

So, y> 6=a rational number

→x cups= Amount of white flour used ≥0.

It will be also a Rational number.

So, x>0,and y>6,both will be a rational number.
