24 x 30 = 720 sq. ft

36 x 108= 3888 sq. inches

3888 inches divided by 12 inches= 324 ft.

720 ft - 324 ft. = 396 ft is the yard only without the garden

Answer:

A₁-A₂=
693ft^(2) : Area of the yard, not including the garden

Explanation:

Conceptual Analysis

The formula to calculate the area of a surface is:

A=l*w Formula (1)

Where:

A: Area in
ft^(2)

l: length in ft

w: width in ft

Nomenclature

A₁: Drake's yard area ,l₁: Drake's yard length, w₁= Drake's yard width

A₂: garden area , l₂: garden length, w₂=garden width

Known data

1ft=12 in

l₁=24 ft w₁= 30 ft

l₂=36 in*1f/12in =3ft w₂=108 in*1ft/12in=9ft

Problem development

We replace the data in formula (1) to calculate areas:

A₁=l₁* w₁=24 ft *30 ft =720
ft^(2)

A₂=l₂* w₂=3 ft *9 ft =27
ft^(2)

A₁-A₂:Area of the yard, not including the garden

A₁-A₂=720
ft^(2)-27
ft^(2)

A₁-A₂=
693ft^(2)
