2(x+4)=-5x+1
Use distributive property(Multiply 2 by x and 4).
2x + 8= -5x+1
Add 5x to both sides so that the variable x is only on one side
7x + 8=1
Subtract 8 from both sides
7x= -7
Divide 7 on both sides so that the only thing remaining on the left side is the variable x.
Final Answer: x= -1
