What was the advantage of the mighty phalanx strategy that both Greek and Macedonian armies used ?

The main advantage of the mighty phalanx was the fact that it presented an impenetrable shield wall of spears that a single soldier couldn't break. When a phalanx was present, soldiers would be stung by the spears from these spears.
