3x^2-6x+5
for ax^2+bx+c=0
discriminant is b^2-4ac
when
1. b^2-4ac>0, there are 2 real roots
2. b^2-4ac=0, there is 1 real root
3. b^2-4ac<0, there are 2 complex roots
3x^2-6x+5
a=3
b=-6
c=5
(-6)^2-4(3)(5)
36-60
-24
answer is -24 is the discriminant
