Find the equation of the line through (-3,5) that is parallel to y=-2x+8

step 1

Find out the slope of the given line

y=-2x+8

the slope is m=-2

step 2

Remember that

if two lines are parallel, then their slopes are equal

that means

the slope of the parallel line is m=-2

step 3

Find out the equation in slope-intercept form

y=mx+b

we have

m=-2

point (-3,5)

substitute and solve for b

5=-2(-3)+b

5=6+b

b=-1

therefore

y=-2x-1
