Each hat costs $2.
Steps:
1) If each umbrella costs $8, and you have four of them then the total cost for umbrellas is $32 dollars.
2) Subtract 32 from 46. (you should get 14)
3) Since you have 7 hats, divide 14 by 7. (you should get 2)
4. Each hat costs $2.

$2 is the cost of one hat because if you multiply 8 by 4 you get 32. Then subtract 32 from 46 and you get 14 which you divide by 7 and get 2.
