Sadi Carnot came up with a hypothetical heat engine that was 100 percent efficient. What discovery did Carnot make that helped him recognize how to create this "perfect" heat engine?

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

His notion that the efficiency of an idealized engine depends only on the hottest and lowest part ( source and sink ) and not on the working substances like steam etc, led him to think about coming up with a hypothetical heat engine having 100 percent efficiency.

i think the discovery that carnot made that helped him recognize how to crete the 'perfect' heat engine was : The difference in the temperatures between hot and cold reservoirs determine how well a heat engine would work.

Here are the formula of Carnot's efficiency : 1 - Tc / Th

Tc = Cold reservoir
Th = Hot reservoir

hope this helps
