1. Naturalization act

The original Naturalization act of 1790 provided the initial rules to be followed by the U.S government in the granting of national citizenship. It was later repealed by Naturalization act of 1795 which extended the residence requirement from 2 to 5 years. It is the passing of the Naturalization act of 1798 that extended the residence requirement from 5 to 14 years.

2. Aliens and Sedition acts

These laws were passed by Federalist congress in 1798 and signed into law by President Adams. They collectively restricted several activities of foreign residents. They also limited freedom of speech. The US and France stood in the brink of war and the federalists feared that the Aliens living the U.S would sympathize with French in the event of war. Thus, Aliens and Sedition acts were passed.

3. Aliens act

Actually, this was the Alien Friends Act of 1978 which permitted the president to deport aliens whom he judged dangerous to the safety and peace of the United States during peacetime

This law was quite the opposite of the Aliens Friends Act and was passed a few days later after the Aliens Friends act was passed. It was also signed by President Adams and it gave him the power to deport any alien in the United States government with ties to the U.S wartime enemies.

5. Judiciary act

The Judiciary act of 1789 purpose was to establish a federal court system that helped bring the United Stated Supreme court and the judicial branch of government into existence. This helped preserve Federalist principles. This act was made up of circuit courts, district courts, and the Supreme Court.

6. Sedition act.

Essentially, this act illegalized public opposition to the government. Hefty fines and imprisonment could be used against those who, “print, write, utter, or publish………….any false, scandalous, and malicious writing”, quote and quote, against the U.S government. It further took aim directly to those who spoke out against the federalist-dominated government.
