I believe the answer is A. Sensory images are used to help a reader visualize a setting, character, or emotion. Symbols represent those settings, characters, of emotions.
Ex: The chilly air of fall whistles against the windows, leaves floating along it's waves. The house is warm, enveloped with the smell of buttery cinnamon and brown sugar, notes of nutmeg and clove seeping through.
The sensory image of smell is evoked here, and the smell of cinnimon, or visualization of fallen leaves are a symbol of the presence of fall.
