Its mainly due to its river. More resources can be found around rivers. Also for good harborsĀ for shipping, and available park land.

Answer:

River, lakefront side, good harbors for shipping and available park land.

Step-by-step explanation:

The city of Chicago or the plan of Chicago was made by Daniel Burnham. He created and planned the urbanistic future of Chicago. Till this date, The Burnham Plan has been a model of inspiration for industrial designers, architects, politicians and academics from all over the world. His greatest legacy to Chicago may have been his idea for a lakefront park system, complete with beaches, playing fields, and playgrounds.
