To get the difference between recipes we have to subtract 31/4 - 23/4. When we are subtracting fraction we have to have common denominator - its ok here. Now subtraction will be easy, only subtract numerator, denominator will not change.

(31)/(4)- (23)/(4)= (31-23)/(4)= (8)/(4)=2 - its the result, so in bead recipe is 2 cups more than in muffin.

To get total cups required to cook bread and muffin we have to add 31/4 and 23/4. Its very similar to subtraction.

(31)/(4)+ (23)/(4)= (31+23)/(4)= (54)/(4) =13.5 - the result is 13.5 cups.
