How did some colonist protest the quartering act of 1765?

The Quartering Act of 1765 ordered colonial assemblies to provide British troops with housing. The Colonists asked why they should pay to keep troops in their colony because they didn't do anything and took up space. The British Government refused to let the assemblies meet until it agreed to obey the act.
