Solve for x: 3(x + 1) = −2(x − 1) + 6.

Simple....

you have:

3(x+1)= -2(x-1)+6

To even begin..substitute and get rid of the parentheses...

3x+3= -2x+2+6

3x+3= -2x+8

Now you can isolate the variable....

3x+3=-2x+8
+2x +2x

5x+3=8

5x+3=8
-3 -3

5x=5

x=1

Check your answer...

3(1+1)=-2(1-1)+6

3(2)=-2(0)+6

6=0+6

6=6

You know your correct...

Thus, your answer.
