The magician enjoying the destruction and damage cause by his trick going wrong tells the reader that his character is does not follow the typical moral compass. A person who is good would normally be horrified that they cause the damage, not get enjoyment from it. This foreshadows that he may do more things to cause damage later on in the story. Foreshadowing is giving a hint of what may come later.
