Ray uses 1/4 of a gallon of gasoline to drive a distance of 5 1/2 miles. At this rate, how many miles can he drive on 1 gallon of gas?

22 miles because 5 1/2 × 4 = 22

Ray drive a distance of 5.5 miles by using 0.25 gallon of gasoline.

Now we can solve this question by unitary method.

∵ Ray can drive on 0.25 gallon of gas = 5.5 miles

∴ Ray can drive on 1 gallon of gas =
(5.5)/(0.25)

= 22 miles
