A candy company claims that 18% of its plain candies are orange, and a sample of 200 such candies is randomly selected.a. Find the mean and standard deviation for the number of orange candies in such groups of 200.

It is given that the probability that the candles are orange is 18% so the value of p=0.18.

The sample of 200 is taken so n=200.

The mean is given by:


\begin{gathered} \mu=np \\ \mu=200*0.18 \\ \mu=36 \end{gathered}

The standard deviation is calculated as:


\begin{gathered} \sigma=\sqrt[]{np(1-p)} \\ \sigma=\sqrt[]{200*0.18(1-0.18)} \\ \sigma\approx5.4332 \end{gathered}

Hence the mean of number of orange candles is 36 and standard deviation is 5.4332.
