y-y1=m(x-x1) is the point slope formula and you plug in the given (x,y) into the spots were it says y1 and x1, then the m on the formula is slope and you put it into the equation.

point slope equation : y - y1 = m(x - x1)

ur points (x,y) are going to be subbed into the equation as (x1,y1)
ur slope is represented by m

Example :
(2,-1).....x1 = 2 and y1 = -1
slope(m) = 3

y - y1 = m(x - x1)...be sure and pay very close attention to ur signs.
y - (-1) = 3(x - 2)....we are not done yet...distribute the negative
y + 1 = 3(x - 2)
