To start off you can take 39.98 and divide it by 100 to find 1% 39.98/100=.3998 you then can either multiply by 30 to find 30% and subtract it from the original amount or you can simply multiply by 70 to find 70% of the original total which is the answer so 30(.3998)=11.99 39.98-11.99 =27.99
or 70(.3998)=27.986 so the answer is $27.99
