In the equation 9 more than 3 times a number is -6, what does a number equal

so 9 more than 3 times a number, would be:
9+(3x)=-6
then you would solve
subtract 9 from 9 and 9 from -6
you get 3x=-15
divide by 3 on both sides
x=-5
