-8x+6+9x=17+ x You have to first group like terms which would be -8x+9x-x= 17-6 The x becomes minus or negative because it crosses the equal sign This applies to the 6 as well -8x+9x-x= 17-6 X= 11

x+6=17+x
x+x=17+(-6)
2x/2 =-102/2=-51
