ok i think that it's. ..
d = # of miles= 578
g=gallons = answer
d ÷476 × 14= gallons of gas the car needed to go 578 miles
ok so ...
578÷476=1.2142857143
1.2142857143 × 14= 17
so the car needs 17 gallons of gas to go 578 miles

so 476/14 = miles per gallon or M/G
so if we want to find gallons in 578 miles we multiply 578/x by 14/476
you get 8092/476x you get 17 for x or 17 gallons in 578 miles
