We need to determine the equation relating the temperature T to the height H above the planet.

Since H = 0 for a point on the surface, and T = 50 Celcius on a location on the surface, the equations should allow:


T=50\text{ when }H=0

Also, since the temperature decreases 5º for each kilometer you go up the surface, for H kilometers, T will decrease 5H.

Thus, the equation is:


T=50-5H

Now, we need to graph this line. We can do so by fiding two points on the line, plotting, and joining them. We already know that the point (0,50) lies on the line.

Also, for H = 5, we have:


T=50-5\cdot5=50-25=25

Thus, the point (5,25) also lies on the line. Plotting those two points and joining them, we obtain the graph:
