The act leading the United States into military involvement in Vietnam was the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and the sending of military advisers. President Kennedy sent the military advisers not to be involved in fighting and just to give their recommendations. They were leading the South Vietnam in fight against the North. United States ships were also attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin which lead to creating the Gulf of Tonkin resolution.
