just like they said you find the factors of both of them that they have in common like in this problem ×3 so you divide that 3 with your numerator and your denominator and t gets shorter
9÷3=3
12÷3=4
3/4

9/12 dividing both the numerator and the denominator by 3
9/3=3
12/3=4
this reduces down to 3/4
