A gym charges a $30 sign-up fee plus $20 per month. You have a $130 gift card for the gym. When does the total spent on your gym membership exceed the amount of your gift card?

So it would be 5 months because the 1st month would be 50 dollars plus 20 for the 2nd month which would be 70 plus 20 for the 3rd month which would be 90 plus 20 for the 4th which would be 110 plus 20 for the 5th month which would equal 130

Answer: The total spent on gym membership exceeds the amount of your gift card after 5 months.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Let the number of months be 'x'.

Amount of sign up fee = $30

Amount per month = $20

Amount of gift card = $130

According to question, our inequality becomes,

30+20x>130\\\\20x>130-30\\\\20x>100\\\\x>(100)/(20)\\\\x>5

Hence, the total spent on gym membership exceeds the amount of your gift card after 5 months.
