Marnie practiced her basketball dribbling. After two tries,she had bounced the ball 88 times. On the second try, she had 2 fewer bouncers than 8 times the number of bounces she had on the first try. How many bounces did she have on the second try?

First try: 10 dribbles, Second try: 78 dribbles, 10x8=80, 80-2=78, 78+10=88

Answer:

Marnie has bounced basketball 78 times on the second try.

Explanation:

Let the number of times ball dribble before first try be x and number of times of dribble before second try be y.

Total number of times ball dribbled after two tries = 88

x+ y = 88 ...[1]

After first try that before second try. she has 2 fewer dribbles than 8x.

y=8x-2...[2]

Putting value of y in [1], we gte:

x = 10

y = 8 × 10 - 2 = 78

Marnie has bounced basketball 78 times on the second try.
