we have that

1.4t-0.4(t-3.1)=5.8\\ 1.4t-0.4t+(0.4*3.1)=5.8

Group terms that contain the variable t, and move the constant to the opposite side of the equation

1.4t-0.4t+1.24=5.8\\ (1.4t-0.4t)=5.8-1.24\\ t=4.56

therefore

the answer is

the value of t is equal to
4.56
