The very first step is to express
x^(3) as x*x*x. You can then proceed to cancel on the x with the x in the denominator to be left with 5*x*x in the numerator. This gives a result of
5x^(2)

If we want to divide 5 x³ by x we must first use:
x ^m : x^n = x ^ ( m - n )
5 x³ : x = 5 x ^(3 - 1) = 5 x²
