In 1400s, Rome was troubled by things such as social upheavals, collapsing institutions,
contact cutoff with China, the plague, and many other things that caused problems for the state.

The Rome in 1400s was a different city than the old Rome of the Roman empire. They were a blooming city of the late medieval period which had problems given the spreading plague at the time. This time also marked a slow transition towards the renaissance which also lead to different advances in life and society.
