Let

x-------> the number of dogs

y------> the number of cats

we know that

(x)/(y)= (3)/(2)

x= (3)/(2)y -------> equation A

x+y=30 -------> equation B

substitute equation A in equation B

(3)/(2)y+y=30

(5)/(2)y=30

y=30*2/5=12\ cats

Find the value of x

x= (3)/(2)*12=18\ dogs

therefore

the answer is

18\ dogs

Answer: 18

Explanation:

Given: The ratio of dogs to cats at an animal shelter is 3 to 2 or
(3)/(2)

The total number of animals in the shelter = 30

Let the number of dogs at shelter be 3x and the number of cats be 2x.

Then according to the question, we have

3x+2x=30\\\\\Rightarrow\ 5x=30\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=6

Now, the number dogs at the shelter is given by :-

3(6)=18

Hence, the number of dogs at the shelter = 18
