Well if you need 45 of each, just divide 45 by 3 and 5. You'd get 15 packages of caps and 9 packages of shirts. I hope this helps! Funny, someone just asked the same question as well and this is the response I gave to them!

Answer:

The club sponsor needs at least 15 packages of caps and 9 packages of shirts.

Explanation:

We have to find the least common multiple of 3 and 5.

The LCM of 3 and 5 is 15.

There are 45 science club members in all. The caps come in packages of 3 and the shirts come in packages of 5.

So, the least number of packages of caps and shirts that will need to be ordered are:

caps =
(45)/(3)=15

shirts =
(45)/(5)=9

Therefore, the club sponsor needs at least 15 packages of caps and 9 packages of shirts.
