remember
|x| makes x positive
so if ou have
|x|=y
assume
x=y and -x=y
so
2|x|-1=3
add 1 to both sides
2|x|=4
divide both sides by 2
|x|=2
assume
x=2
-x=2
so therefor
x=-2 and/or 2
