Could be incorrect but think you just add across. So,1 2/5 + 3 1/2 = 4 3/7

1 2/5 + 3 1/2
= 7/5 + 7/2
= ((7x2)+(7x5))/(5x2)
=(14+35)/10
=49/10
=4 9/10
