After a 30% reduction, you purchase a new television for $161. What was the price of the television before the reduction?

so the price of the TV now is 100-30=70% of the origonal price so
161=70%
If you divide both sides by 7 then multiply by 10 you should get your answer
so 161/7=70/7%=23=10%
times 10 23=10% 230=100% so the origonal price before redution=$230

7/10 = 30% reduction as 70/100 is 7/10.

7/10*p=$161

7p=$1,610

p=($1,610)/7

p=$230
