Why is (4,1) not a solution to the equation y=3x+1?
Explain.

Because it would become 1= 3(4)+1 which would simplify to 1=13 which is incorrect, if the coordinates were 1,4 then it would be correct

The (4, 1) is an ordered pair. The format for an ordered pair is (x, y).
So 4 = x and 1 = y.
Plugging in the values gives us 1 = 3(4) + 1.
Which of course we can already see that this is not true.
