The correct answer is a covalent bond. Carbon and oxygen are both nonmetals, therefore they would share electrons to form a covalent bond. Ionic bonds form between nonmetals and metals, covalent bonds form between multiple nonmetals, and metallic bonds form between multiple metals. Most periodic tables show which elements are metals and which are nonmetals.
