$35 - $1.45= $33.55
Then divide $33.55 by $0.55

Answer:

An inequality to determine Ariel can travel if she has $35 to spend is
1.45+0.55 m \leq 35 and no. of miles Ariel can travel is 61 or less than 61

Explanation:

Given : A cab charges $1.45 for the flat fee and $0.55 for each mile.

To Find : Write and solve an inequality to determine how many miles Ariel can travel if she has $35 to spend.

Solution :

Fixed cost = $1.45

Cost of 1 mile = $0.55

Let m be the no. of miles

So, Cost of m miles = 0.55 m

So, Total cost = 1.45+0.55 m

She has $35 to spend.

So, she can spend $35 or less than 35

So, inequality becomes :
1.45+0.55 m \leq 35

0.55 m \leq 35-1.45

0.55 m \leq 33.55

m \leq (33.55)/(0.55)

m \leq 61

Hence an inequality to determine Ariel can travel if she has $35 to spend is
1.45+0.55 m \leq 35 and no. of miles Ariel can travel is 61 or less than 61
