Bipolar neurons are cells with two branches that serve to transmit signals. This text refers to the visual system, in which the photoreceptor cells found in the retina of the eye capture light from outside and transmit this information to the bipolar neurons which in turn send the information to the ganglion neurons which connect to the brain through their long axon.
