When Rowlandson was captured by the Native Americans, she had viewed her captivity as a test and punishment from God, wherein if she were able to survive and pass the test, she would strengthen her relationship with God. In the eleven weeks that she had spent in captivity, she was not harmed nor treated with disdain. Rather, all that the Native Americans had asked of her was to tailor for them in exchange for food. They were polite and compassionate towards her, and when the ransom was finally paid off by her husband at the end of the eleven weeks of capture, the Native Americans had immediately set her free without any harm coming to her.
