Answer and Explanation:

Given : Number 3.441

To find : How does writing number in expanded form show why the same digit can have different values?

Solution :

Writing number in expanded form,

3.441=3* 1+4* (1)/(10)+4* (1)/(100) +4* (1)/(1000)

or
3.441=3* 1+4*10^(-1)+4*10^(-2)+4* 10^(-3)

The same digit 4 have different values because their place values are different as tenths and hundredths so their face value change.

As tenth place 4 is 0.4 and hundredths place 4 is 0.04.
